Welcoming the Quarters of the Day

Ideally, each of these welcomings would be followed by a contemplative reading of your choice. Inspirational poetry, or any writings that bring about the state of mind that you want to achieve for that time of day.

Incense for morning and/or night is suggested , or even better would be a  soap stone diffuser which brings about both flame, water, and scent (air)  in an earthen base.

If you are unable to say all the Quarters, reading them all at one time before bed, as an offering of thankfulness works well too.

Morning – facing East

Hail to the Divine in day’s first light.
The rising Sun in the pink sky, a symbol of new beginnings .
May I be mindful of the element of Air.
The breath of life. Perfect balance.
In this new day, may my spirit soar like the Eagle.
Gentle and clear-headed in motion.

Mid Day – facing South

Hail to the Divine in the height of the day.
The risen Sun in the brightness of mid-hour, a symbol of action.
May I be mindful of the element of Fire.
Of strength and determination
In this hour may I realize my inner power.
Like the blinding brilliance of the Sun.

Sundown – facing West

Hail to the Divine in the light that fades.
The setting Sun in crimson sky a symbol of completion.
May I be mindful of the element of Earth.
Grounding, manifestion.
In this hour may I draw close to me, that which is needed
Like the soil receiving a fallen seed.

Night/Midnight – facing North

Hail to the Divine in this hour of darkness
The Sun’s light reflected in the moon a symbol of the Spark Within.
May I be mindful of the element of Water.
Cleansing and Renewal.
In this hour may I realize that some things need to be left behind.
Let stresses and concerns of the day fall away into the river of the night
So that I may find renewal and comfort in my slumber.
